The place I always eat:
Can Tito, the arroz negro and squid ink croquettes are unrivaled anywhere, Haiku for sushi and the desserts, Celeste for simple pasta, El Beirut for the worlds best shawarma and delicious dahl.
Where to stay for the night:
An old house with whitewashed walls, under the stars on the beach.
The one place I take everyone:
A walk to the lighthouse at Cap de Creus, the easternmost point in Spain, the setting for the film The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World with Kirk Douglas and Yul Brenner.
Best local product you should try:
Almond horchata, fuet (like french saucisson but better), the olives, the manchego, the jamon serrano, the rosemary massage oils from El Tao.
The 2nd best kept secret:
El Tao shop, where you can get special oils and products made from the herbs that grow in the local mountains, specialty products from all over the world and, when I was a kid, the only place in the entire town that had a personal computer. Another great place is El Tao restaurant, a literal hole in the wall of a commune that serves vegetable curries, chai tea on two tiny tables on the floor.
