The place I always eat:Two Boroughs Larder. It’s sustainable, farm-to-table fair with friendly southern prices.
Where to stay for the night:If you’re on a budget, the sand dunes under the Sullivan’s Island lighthouse are perfect. Otherwise, the Old Village Post House in Mt. Pleasant.
The one place I take everyone: For coffee - Hope and Union, a stumptown serving coffee shop built in an traditional Charleston single - house. For sun - the beach. I like Station 18 entrance on Sullivan’s Island. It can be quieter and more relaxing than the neighboring Isle of Palms.
Best local product you should try: Pimento Cheese. Or go to Boone Hall Farms for locally grown produce. You can pick huge tomatoes when in season for less then $1/lb. There’s fantastic locally - owned, healthy sandwich spot called Dellz off upper King St.
The 2nd best kept secret: I haven’t lived in Charleston for over 10 years but I always loved hanging out on the abandoned old bridge which used to connect Mt. Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island. Rent a boat and seek out some secluded rope swings on the tributaries of the Wando River.
